Tiene que ver con la corrupci?n de algunos jueces en EEUU y de las consecuencias perniciosas de la privatizaci?n de determinadas funciones b?sicas reservadas normalmente al estado, en este caso el sistema de prisiones. M?s de dos millones de personas, la mayor?a hispanos y negros, se pudren en los penales del imperio trabajando esclavizados, sin derechos, para muchas industrias como la militar por pocos centavos a la hora.<\/p>\n<p>All? tienen tres tipos de c?rceles, las federales, las nacionales y, c?mo no, las privadas. Estas ?ltimas constituyen en bloque uno de los negocios m?s florecientes de USAm?rica, cotizan en bolsa y est?n participadas por corporaciones tan conocidas como Merril-Lynch, la difunta Lehman o American Express. Los beneficios de las plusval?as de los esclavos van a parar a gestores y constructores de las prisiones y tienen tal cuant?a que han constituido una potente y brutal industria que se abastece de combustible humano. A m?s presos, m?s negocio. As?, los lobbys carceleros influyen sobre pol?ticos para endurecer penas y existe incluso tr?fico de presos de larga duraci?n del sistema p?blico al privado para que as? se aseguren de que generan m?s dinero durante m?s tiempo mediante el sistema de trabajos forzados.<\/p>\n<p>?Resultado? EEUU tiene un cuarto de la poblaci?n reclusa mundial, un porcentaje cinco veces mayor que lo que le corresponder?a para los habitantes que pululan por aquellas tierras. Nadie podr?a creer que los gringos son 5 veces m?s violentos que los habitantes del resto de pa?ses del mundo. Esos guarismos obedecen en buena parte a la perversi?n creada por un sistema corrupto en s? mismo.?<\/p>\n<p>Es ah? donde se enmarca la brutal noticia publicada hoy por Amy Goodman de Democracy Now! <a href=\"http:\/\/www.democracynow.org\/es\/blog\/2009\/2\/18\/encarcelar_a_los_nios_por_dinero\">Dos jueces han sido condenados por encarcelar a unos dos mil ni?os en el estado de Pensilvania a cambio de comisiones por cada nuevo recluso que lograban meter en la trena<\/a>. Los?sobornos eran sufragados por empresas constructoras y gestoras de prisiones y las v?ctimas, ni?os y j?venes con pocos recursos como para tener acceso a una defensa jur?dica digna ?casi siempre negros e hispanos?. Goodman relata el caso de una ni?a de 14 a?os que estuvo un a?o recluida un a?o por dar una bofetada a una compa?era. Pensemos qu? puede estar pasando en el resto de estados de la Uni?n y personas de cualquier edad.
